is sea glass? It is the worn, smoothed glass that
many of us have discovered along the beach. Broken
by the rocks, pounded by surf and rubbed smooth
on the ocean's sandy shore, the sharp edges are
softened. The once glossy sea glass is now translucent,
taking on a gemstone-like quality. Early settlers
called it "mermaid's tears."
For the past several years, I have been collecting my own sea glass on the beaches of Rhode Island. My favorite beaches are in Newport and Jamestown - I find the smoothest and greatest variety of colors in those two places. I especially enjoy travelling down there at sunset, watching the sun slowly fade into the waters of the bay before disappearing completely. As you can tell, I enjoy the entire experience of finding sea glass!
I have had many people tell me about their sea
glass collections and the memories they have about
when and where they collected it. Do you have any
sea glass stories you'd like to tell me? Click the
Contact Us button on the left and tell me about
yourself - who you are and how and why you are interested
in sea glass. Your stories may show up some day
on my site!
Please take your time reviewing all that I have to offer. If
you have any questions or comments, feel free to
e-mail me at seajewlz818@aol.com.
