Town River Stewards Committee

Meeting Minutes
March 17, 2005

Location: Bridgewater Public Library
Attendees: Carole Smudin, Jim Revil, Ralph Galante, Kent Kreutler, Gil Solomon, Mike Enos and Jim Howell

Minutes were accepted as corrected and amplified by Kitty Doherty's helpful revision from last month.

Old Business: Discussion was directed to the immediate goals of taking advantage of the Rotary Club's volunteering to help set up a canoe access site in each of the Bridgewaters. In W. Bridgewater the preferred site is at the Scotland St. Bridge which is scheduled for major repair by the state in the forseeable future. Jim Howell contacted the Highway Dept in WB and was not able to get any information that could help the committee plan any access. Kitty did get information from an engineering firm and some sketches but we will need to find a contact person there if she has not already done so. The land on all sides abutting the bridge is owned by Cumberland Farms.

Sites in Bridgewater were discussed and were the Iron Works area, Stiles and Hart and the old town barn site. It was the unanimous consensus of the committee that the site easiest to get upgraded and useful is Stiles and Hart. It was discussed that a bridge from the old town barn area could be added when feasible and would be quite desirable.

There is a cleanup being planned by the Lincoln Club this spring on the Town River when conditions allow and we would like to join them.

We adjourned after setting the date for the next meeting, Thursday 6:30 PM April 14, 2005 at the Bridgewater Library.
