Town River Stewards Committee
Meeting Minutes
February 8, 2006
Location: Bridgewater Public Library
Attendees:Fran Jeffries, Kent Kreutler, and Carole Smudin
Fran reviewed a bit of the history leading up to the canoe launch projects. She also brought up several points of information:
- The Rotary Club wants the canoe launch areas to be "universally accessible", i.e., following ADA guidelines.
- Doug Cameron from Fisheries and Wildlife, who has experience with canoe launch projects, offered his time and willingness to offer technical assistance with any construction projects.
- The plans for building a footbridge from Town Landing to Stiles and Hart seem to be going forward. A canoe launch from the Town Landing is also being considered.
- Other groups interested in the project include the Campus Plaza folks (who'd like some signage placed for business), SRPEDD, and the NRTB, who is proposing to use Americorp to clear 'blow downs' along the Town River.
- The Rotary club has set aside some money for materials, all that is needed is volunteer labor for projects that could be completed in a day or so.
- Betty Mazzone found a source for and is picking up some rubber duckies for the fund raising "Duck Derby" we'd been discussing.
- Fran would like to have a brochure about the project and also said she'd like to have signs made that list organizations that collaborated to develop canoe launch areas and river access for display in the canoe launch areas.
The next TRSC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2006 @ 6:30 P.M. at the Bridgewater Public Library to further solidify the fundrasing duckathon.
